“There’s nobody here!”
Recently back from Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebridies – which could do with some sort of ‘curator’ to help in giving form and opportunity for the artists and community there. There are either artists getting away from things and work with the inspiring context or others who are continuing to do what is tourist art. Cafes with paintings, lovely food but dubious artwork. But stand out enterprise is the Mission House Studio, which is home and studio to Nickolai and Beka Globe. A brave and risky decision to convert a simple church building into an inspiring studio space for their artwork. Also got up to An Lanntair in Stornoway which is what is expected as a lottery developed art centre – white space, cafe/bar, shop with books and craft, a mini DCA, but with bland exhibition.
