Oak Trees and Fountains :
a season of site-specific work at Drum Castle, Aberdeenshire
Victoria Clare Bernie
May to October 2004
Co-curated with Lorraine Grant for Drum Castle, The National Trust for Scotland property in NE Scotland.
The project was to enable and disseminate understanding of context, artistic values, public relationships and partnership collaborations that developed. In practice the project negotiated the opportunity for four contemporary artists – David Blyth, Janice McNab, Jim Harold and Victoria Clare Bernie – to produce new site-specific work for Drum Castle. The artists were selected from applications through the Scottish Arts Council. The artists were asked to make their research methods transparent for the audience, through published interviews and displayed materials. A range of interpretation materials was produced and a substantial display of project, artist and audience development materials shown in the Old Laundry building on the estate. During the season the audiences reactions were analysed, recorded and displayed alongside the main documentation materials.
